Yasmin/Yaz (Drospirenone) Television commercials over-market birth control pills. WHAT IS DROSPIRENONE?

Drospirenone is a synthetic hormone in birth control pills and postmenopausal hormone replacement. It is used in order to prevent ovulation (the part of the female menstrual cycle, when a mature ovarian follicle discharges an egg), causing

modifications in your cervical and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus. It is sold as a combined oral contraceptive (COCP), under the brand name of Yasmin or Yaz/Yasminelle in United States, EU and Latin America.

WHAT IS IT USED FOR?

Drospirenone (progestin) in combination with ethyl estradiol (synthetic estrogen) are put in use in some birth control pills and hormone replacement therapy, to inhibit female fertility, treat symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), and moderate acne in women. Do not forget that birth control pills do not protect you from HIV (AIDS) or any STD’s. In May 11, 2001 FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved Yasmin for birth control and premenstrual dysphoric disorder.
